Q: What grants are in place to help retail/leisure businesses forced to close?

As well as a business rates holiday, the Chancellor has also announced the Retail and Hospitality Grant Scheme – a package to provide cash grants to those in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in England.

Companies in these sectors with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 may be eligible for a grant of £10,000, and those with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000 may be eligible for a grant of £25,000.

Properties covered by this relief will be occupied properties that are mainly used:

  • As shops, restaurants, cafes, drinking establishments, cinemas and live music venues
  • For assembly and leisure
  • For hospitality, as hotels, guest & boarding premises or self-catering accommodation

Firms eligible for this grant will be contacted by their local authority in due course, though some have decided to operate an application process. Any enquiries should be directed to your relevant local authority.
